Cigar Aficionado's Top 25 Cigars of 2007

I just got my February issue of Cigar Aficionado and it looks like they've come up with their top 25 cigars of 2007. I'm never sure how much of the list is influenced by advertising dollars since there are some prior picks that I strongly disagreed with. Last year, they named the Coronado by La Flor Dominicana as the #2 cigar of 2006, a ranking that I thought was completely unworthy. I thought it was too overpowering and I couldn't even finish smoking the cigar.

This year they named the Padron Serie 1926 No. 9 as the #1 cigar. The last time I smoked the Serie 1926 was a couple years ago and I thought then that it was an average cigar at best. For the price of the cigar, and the fact that it was made by one of my favorite cigar makers, I had expected a great smoke. I was very disapponted. I have a Serie 1926 in my humidor and I'll give it another try over the next few weeks. We'll see whether I change my mind.

Without any more delay, here is Cigar Aficionado's top 25 cigars of 2007:

1) Padron Serie 1926 No. 9 (yeah right)
2) Fuente Fuente OpusX PerfecXion No. 2 (I think OpusX's are over-rated and over-priced)
3) Montecristo No. 2 (a great cigar)
4) Oliva Serie V Torpedo (I love this cigar)
5) Ashton Virgin Sun Grown Torpedo (VSG's rule!!!)
6) Cohiba Madura 5 Secretos
7) Illusione cg:4
8) Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur Maduro Epicure
9) CAO Vision Prana
10) Dunhill Signed Range Toro
11) Montecristo Petit Edmundo
12) San Cristobal Monumento (tasty heaven)
13) Camacho Select Torpedo
14) La Flor Domincana Double Ligero Chisel Maduro
15) Tatuaje Havana VI Angeles
16) Punch Double Coronoa

i think CA editors taste buds is dead( because of they are smoking generally non-cubans)...
as a 15 year cigar smoker( i never called myself aficinado) i never seen a cigar can comparable to habanos, in terms of flavor, aroma, complexity and power...
CA reviews mostly commercial(they're back to back big non-cuban cigar producers) superficial and childish...
in Europe cigar smoking is culture not fashion; we generally smoke habanos in here (who can afford it)

Cuban cigars flavor aroma etc is something unique, classic and original, but.. There are other flavors also, like nicaraguan and brazilian. Yes there are not cuban flavored, their just different tastes. Its like supercars, you cant immitate a sound of a ferrari for sure, but this is not a reason to say that all other cars arent good. I find it so simple..

yes i agree with the first comment. if some one is ranking cigars and it does not include cuban cigars then this ranking is just waste of time...

Thanks for the info. Cuban cigar especially HDM Churchill are my favourite. Cuban cigars provide such fantastic taste and perfect burn from start to finish. The flavors are simply intense, with earth, spice and licorice building into a dense thick smoke. They have so much character that it is really easy for anyone to illustrate difference between a Cuban and non Cuban cigar.
